Theater Romualdo Marenco

Chrizia Affittacamere is just a short walk from the Marenco Theater, located in the central Via Girardengo true heart of the city of Novi Ligure. On October 2, 1839, designed by architect Giuseppe Becchi, the Carlo Alberto Theater was inaugurated in Novi, reproducing some of the characteristics of the Carlo Felice in Genoa: elegant architectural lines, refined decorations of stucco and gilding, and perfect acoustics. Only a few years earlier, in 1836, a group of citizens had proposed the construction of a new theater that would meet the artistic as well as the social and economic needs of the city. To this end it urged the administration of the time to assemble a commission that identified as a suitable place a space adjacent to the city's main street. He also immediately requested the patronage of King Charles Albert, as recalled by a plaque placed in the foyer. Work proceeded expeditiously and a date was set for the inauguration, which staged works by Bellini, Donizetti, Romani and three unpublished dances by choreographer Ottone Mosso. Several important seasons followed with programs capable of involving many spectators from neighboring towns as well. In 1898, on the occasion of the stay in town of maestro Romualdo Marenco, who was born in Novi on March 1, 1841 and was already established in the musical field, some of his compositions were staged.
