Wine Gavi Docg

Updated: May 19

Chrizia Affittacamere is just a few minutes' drive from the various wineries producing Gavi Docg, The production area includes the entire territory of the following municipalities in the Novese area: Bosio, Capriata d'Orba, Carrosio, Francavilla Bisio, Gavi, Novi Ligure, Parodi Ligure, Pasturana, San Cristoforo, Serravalle Scrivia, and Tassarolo in the province of Alessandria. Cortese is an ancient native grape variety, perfectly adapted to the soil and climate of the Novese area.

The first document is dated June 3, 972: preserved in the State Archives of Genoa, it mentions the lease of vineyards in the locality of Meirana granted by the bishop of Genoa to two citizens of Gavi. In 1659 in the correspondence between Montaldeo Castle and Marquis Doria appears a reference to plantings of "vines all of cortese." In 1798 Count Nuvolone, deputy director of the Agricultural Society of Turin, mentions Cortese in the Corteis form (in the Piedmontese language), stating that: "it has rather long clusters, rather large berries, when ripe it turns yellow and is good to eat, makes good wine, is plentiful and keeps well." Today, Gavi is one of the most appreciated and world-renowned Italian white wines. Gavi wine is distinguished by its fresh and delicate flavor profile, with notes of green apple, white peach, white flowers and a subtle minerality. In the mouth, it offers pleasant acidity, good structure and a long, lingering finish. These wines are loved for their elegance, freshness and ability to age.
